Mentor Holt Robotics

Mentors

Share what you know, learn alongside students, and help create hands-on experiences that can shape what they do next.

Make an impact

You don't have to build the robot to help build the team.

Mentors help students turn ideas into real projects while developing confidence, technical skills, leadership, and teamwork.

Some mentors bring years of engineering or programming experience. Others contribute through project management, communication, business, organization, media, or simply a willingness to help students learn.

The goal isn't to do the work for students. It's to give them the guidance, encouragement, and experience they need to solve problems themselves.

Ways to mentor

There is more than one way to help.

Robotics teams need a wide range of skills. Technical experience is valuable, but it isn't the only way adults can contribute.

01

Engineering

Mechanical & Fabrication

Help students develop mechanisms, prototype ideas, understand manufacturing processes, and safely turn designs into real parts.

02

Technology

Programming

Support students as they learn software development, robot control, sensors, autonomous systems, vision, and debugging.

03

Engineering

Electrical

Help students learn wiring, electronics, sensors, troubleshooting, documentation, and good electrical practices.

04

Design

CAD & Prototyping

Guide students through computer-aided design, iteration, prototyping, drawings, and designing parts for manufacturing.

05

Team Operations

Business & Project Management

Help students organize projects, manage deadlines, document their work, plan events, and understand how successful teams operate.

06

Communication

Media & Outreach

Support photography, video, writing, presentations, community outreach, branding, sponsorship, and telling the team's story.

What mentoring looks like

Guide the process. Let students own the result.

Great mentoring isn't about having every answer. It's about asking good questions, sharing experience, helping students understand mistakes, and giving them room to make decisions.

01

Teach

Explain the thinking, tools, and processes behind the work.

02

Ask

Help students think through problems rather than immediately giving them the solution.

03

Support

Create an environment where students can try ideas, make mistakes, and improve.

04

Step back

Give students the opportunity to take ownership, lead, and make the final product theirs.
