This month has been super exciting! We have completed version one of our build as of our last practice! We have used the Rev Robotics kit bot as a base for our design, but ultimately made updates.
The first change we made was upgrading to a mechanum drive train. This required a different chassis than the kit bot had and a couple modifications of kit bot measurements to make the other mechanisms fit onto the chassis.
We then decided to upgrade just the motor for the intake to make it stronger knowing we wanted the intake to go 2x faster than the drivetrain. We very quickly found that the kit bot intake needed additional updates with the stronger motor. One of our members set about prototyping the intake and over the course of a Saturday practice had the new intake designed, prototyped, tested, and on the robot itself. The different mechanisms were attached shortly after - and handoff to programming began!
Programming then worked to get our programming started. With about 20 minutes left of our last practice before Fall break, we were able to wire up the robot and test! Lots of work to go still, but we are very excited for where we are at.
Tune in to our next update to find out what our robot name will be!
