FLL Challenge

FIRST LEGO League Challenge

Students apply STEM skills they learned in a friendly robot competition. The 2026-2027 BIOGLOW season lets participants explore the vibrancy of the world's ecosystems with biodiversity themes both in the game and their innovation project.

Grades 4th-5th

FLL Challenge

Students gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program using LEGO® technology, helping today’s students, families, and educators build a better future together.

The experience

Learn by building something real.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge gives students the opportunity to work together on autonomous robotics programming, problem solving, and real-world scientific research. Teams use LEGO-based SPIKE Prime robotics systems to program an autonomous robot to solve mission tasks on a themed playing field. They also research real-world problems connected to the annual theme to develop an original, creative solution that is presented and judged alongside their robot.

Students learn through designing, building, programming, testing, communicating, documenting, and improving their work throughout the season.

More than competition

Students build skills that go far beyond the robot.

01

Design

Students turn ideas into solutions through planning, prototyping, CAD, testing, and iteration.

02

Build

Teams learn how individual mechanical, electrical, and software systems come together into a complete robot.

03

Program

Students use software, sensors, automation, and control systems to bring the robot to life.

04

Lead

Communication, teamwork, project management, outreach, and leadership are part of every successful robotics program.

Program highlights

What makes FIRST LEGO League Challenge different.

Build real robots

Teams design, build and program a LEGO robot to tackle missions on a themed game table.

Solve Real World Problems

Teams research a real-world problem, then design and share an innovative solution.

Grow Together

Through teamwork, coaching, and FIRST Core Values, kids build confidence and skills that last beyond the season.
